Welfare Officer - Amanda Hanlon

Amanda Hanlon

I joined Barclays in 1979 as a shorthand typist at 93 Baker Street in London. When my family moved to West Sussex in October 1981, it was at this time that I applied for a transfer to Crawley Branch, where I was a Secretary in the Secretarial Team. During my time at Crawley Branch, I was a Supervisor for the Secretarial Team.

In May 1987, I was offered the opportunity of working as a Personal Assistant to the Personal Sector Sales Manager at South East Regional Office and provided secretarial and administration support to other members of the Marketing Team.

I worked at Regional Office until the summer of 1995, when I was promoted to a new role in London at the Head Office of Barclays Agricultural Services Department, located at St Swithin’s House. I enjoyed helping on the Barclays stands at the South of England Show, Smithfield Show and Royal Show. I found this very rewarding in engaging with clients and the general public. I worked with Barclays for 20 years up until August 1999, when I left through voluntary redundancy.

I then moved into a new role with Marsh & McLennan Insurance Inc in London where I worked for 19 years up until August 2019 in the Compliance Team as Personal Assistant, supporting the Head of Compliance, (Europe, Middle East & Asia) and Head of Compliance UK, providing administration support to the Compliance Management Team, Compliance Business Partners and Compliance Monitoring Team.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time of working in both the Banking and Insurance Industry, meeting a great bunch of people, who have continued to be good friends.

In May 2021, I joined the Mid Sussex Spread Eagles Club and attended some of the wonderful social events and re-connecting with some of my good friends I worked with at Barclays.
I have recently joined the Mid Sussex Spread Eagles Committee as Welfare Officer and I am looking forward to meeting those of you who I have not yet met.

My hobbies include exercising (Pilates, Walking and Aqua Pilates), theatre trips, holidays in Europe and the UK, working as a National Trust Volunteer with the Visitor Experience Team at Sheffield Park. I am also a Volunteer Bookings Administrator for St Andrew’s Church, Burgess Hill. During the Covid Pandemic I was a Vaccination Steward Support with the Royal Voluntary Service.
